This 2nd generation automatic trash can has improved sensor sensitivity to prevent accidental openings, and superior lid opening mechanism for longer lasting, more durable operations. As your hand or debris enter the zone 6 inches from the infrared sensor on top of the trash can, the lid will automatically open. The lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the 6 inch range of the infrared sensor. 3 seconds after your hand moves away from the lid it closes automatically. Throwing Trash Away could Never be Funner

This is quite an amazing product. Me and my roommates love the trash can. Just wave the trash in front of it and poof the lid lifts (via battery power for 10,000 times) and you can plop the trash in the bag. The bag is held in this ring of sorts that keeps it in place. I havent found any problem with it, and so far havent made any mess inside of it. It still looks shiny. I may try to invest in their other products. Love it.

I read other reviews before purchasing this product that said the lift mechanism was too weak to last. So far it works great and I see no reason to believe that it won't last. I use it in the kitchen where my hands are often messy or full of food scraps. Just move in front of the lid and presto, it opens. I love it! Fantastic for kitchens and I plan to order one for our master bath as well. Highly recommended.

I have been looking for the perfect trash can for my kitchen for years! I wasn't sure if I should order this one because some of the reviews were not that great - but I ordered it and took a chance. I am so glad that I did. I can not rave enough about this garbage can. I bought the larger one, the 23 gallon can. It is fantastic!! I use large trash can bags - not a problem getting them in or out. I have it in a high traffic area and it hasn't opened once in error. Everyone in the family just loves it!! I would highly recommend it!! I think most of the reviews are for the smaller can - the larger one is the greatest!!

I wish I would have bought this years ago! I stayed with my sister in Atlanta and she had one. I fell in love. This is totally hands free(you can touch a button to open if you want to). This is so great for mutliple reasons! first bieng germs and second who wants to tiuch a trasdh can? I call mine R2D2. It works great. She uses batteries but I spent 14 dollars and bought the AC adaptor. The previous trash can was simular but had the spin lid. It was always dirty with smears and hand prints. This one still looks new out of the box. No amount of money will get this one out of my home!!
Love it!

After I had a broken plastic trash bin where it took me both hands to open it I was so fed up, decided to splurge. I looked at traditional stainless steel trash cans and they all were nearly as, or even more expensive. This has been working great now for a while. The batteries have lasted at least 4-5 months and our kids love to put their trash away. You can open it by pushing a button and need to push another button to close it, or just wait till it opens and closes by itself. I find it very easy to clean, too. If you put a lot of big bottles or other heavy stuff in it, it sometimes takes some "wiggeling" to get the full bag out cause stuff can get stuck at the top edge, but if you don't stuff it overly full it is never a problem. What I also like a lot is the design and the ring you place over the edges of the bag so the bag won't show from the outside. I love it!!!
